Mountain Lakes

In a world dominated by sitting down, motionlessly hooked to a screen just two feet in front of you for hours upon hours, you can easily see why the opposite of that has become one the fastest growing sports in the world: Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP).

It’s not a difficult concept to grasp: you are on a board … that you paddle … while standing.

This sport has become popular in part because of its ease and versatility. While more challenging than other paddle sports such as kayaking or canoeing, a beginner can still feel at ease on an SUP in just a short afternoon on a calm lake. And it’s just plain fun.

The sport is definitely taking a hold here in the Ashland area. There are several stores in town offering SUPs for sale and rent, as well as a SUP rental business that also offers instruction, located at Emigrant Lake.
